Born on 17 May 1951 in Jetpur, Pankaj Udhas belonged to a landlord family. He was the youngest of three brothers. His elder brother Manhar Udhas was a well-known singer in the cinema world. His other brother Nirmal Udhas was also a well-known ghazal singer. Manoj Udhas was inspired to take up singing by his elder brother Manhar.
